BlackPeopleMeet review
The biggest name in US Black dating. Worth it if you are over 35 and want something real — less so if you live on your phone.
Advertising disclosure. We earn a commission if you subscribe through links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It never changes which sites we recommend or what we say about them.
Hands-on testing pending. This overview is built from publicly available information about the platform. We have not yet run a paid account through it, so there are no ratings, no pricing table and no first-person claims here. Those go up when the testing is done — not before.
What it is
BlackPeopleMeet is run by People Media, a Match Group subsidiary that also operates OurTime. It is a website first, with an app attached, and it has been running long enough that most Black singles in America have at least heard of it. That name recognition is its single biggest advantage: more people means more chances, and dating platforms live or die on density.
Who you will actually meet
The user base skews older than the app crowd — comfortably into the 35 to 55 range — and skews toward people who describe themselves as looking for a relationship rather than something casual. If that is you, this is the most obvious starting point in the category.
The paywall
Like nearly every subscription dating site, you can create a profile and browse for free, but sending messages requires a paid plan. Whether that is worth it depends entirely on how many active members are near you, which is why we suggest browsing free first and only paying once you have seen real profiles in your area.
Is it right for you?
Worth it if
- +You are 35 or older and past the swiping stage
- +You live in or near a metro with a real Black population
- +You would rather read a full profile than judge a photo
Look elsewhere if
- −You want a free experience — messaging needs a subscription
- −You are in your twenties and want app-speed matching
- −You live somewhere rural, where the member pool thins out fast
What it costs
We publish prices only once we have paid them ourselves and can show a current receipt. Pricing on these platforms changes often and by region, and a stale table is worse than no table. Join the list below and we will send the breakdown the day it is verified.
